About the Speaker:

Based in Montreal, Xue Yiwei is one of the most influential Chinese authors writing today. He is the author of twenty books, including five novels, six collections of stories, and five collections of literary essays. Shenzheners (2016) is his first book translated (by Darryl Sterk) into English; Chinese Literature and Culture has also just released a special issue on “Xue Yiwei and his War Stories.”

Abstract:

In this talk, Xue Yiwei, “a maverick in contemporary Chinese literature” (Ha Jin), will speak about recent shifts in focus in the Chinese literary field and share an outline of his own acclaimed literary career. He will also read “The Peddler,” from his new book, Shenzheners.
