UPCOMING EVENT: The Plight of Uyghurs: Dr. Ilham Tohti and the Uyghur People

WEBINAR:
Join UBC Scholars at Risk & Human Rights Collective at a webinar on academic freedom, Dr. Ilham Tohti, and the Uyghur people in China.

Description:
Dr. Ilham Tohti is an economics professor and an advocate for a peaceful reconciliation between Uyghurs and Han Chinese. He was arrested, arbitrarily charged for separatism, and imprisoned for life in 2014 in China. Read more about his two-day trial with “full of legal shortcomings” here (link to a BBC Article from 2014).

This webinar will bring together Dr. Tohti’s daughter and a resilient Uyghur rights advocate, Jewher Ilham, and China’s human rights law expert from the UBC Peter A. Allard School of Law, Dr. Pitman Potter. The UBC Scholars at Risk & Human Rights Collective invite you to join this webinar, learn more about the plight of Dr. Ilham Tohti and the Uyghur people and take action in the fight for their freedom.
